Things are not as they appear to be
The talk is freedom…but it's really about slavery
Freedom to speak, as long as it doesn't influence others to rebel
Freedom to meet, as long as big brother is listening to what you tell
Freedom to complain about the conditions under which we live, but no freedom to change government and what they give
Lies have always been the main course for the people to eat
They're made appetizing, and sometimes very sweet
You could make a lie look exotic, or put it in a candy bar
Lies rule the world, and always leave a nasty scar
Education is on the plate, and politicians play it well
When it's really indoctrination, so you can find pretentious comforts living in hell
Things are not as they appear to be
The talk is freedom…but it's really about slavery
Promises were made just to be broken
Many prayers were prayed, and the people are still hopin'
Somewhere deep down, we want to believe it's apple pie
